Moving into a care home is such a big step and can be tinged with uncertainty and anxiety. Before moving to Springfield Care Home, Marion enjoyed a busy and independent life surrounded by the things she loved most. Gardening, shopping trips, and spending time with friends were all part of her daily routine.
“I used to do a bit of everything,” Marion says. “I loved gardening, going out to the shops, and inviting friends over for tea. It was lovely to build a little community together.”
Life Before
Her home was full of warmth and happy memories, especially her bright south-facing sitting room where family and friends would gather.
But when the time came to consider additional support, Marion discovered that moving into care did not mean leaving her life behind. Instead, it meant gaining a new level of comfort, companionship, and reassurance through the support of high-quality residential care.
Thankfully, Springfield already felt familiar to her.
“My mother and stepfather had both lived here, and I had visited many times before,” she explains. “I had also stayed here for respite care, so it never felt unknown to me.”
The Transition
That familiarity, combined with the kindness of the team, made all the difference.
“Everyone was so warm and welcoming from the very beginning,” Marion says. “I call them family now.”
From the moment she arrived, Marion felt reassured by both the environment and the people around her.
“I knew I had a lovely room to come into, and the whole atmosphere immediately put me at ease. The friendliness here really helps you settle in.”
Life Now
Today, Marion enjoys a full and active lifestyle at Springfield Care Home, with the freedom to continue doing the things she enjoys while receiving support whenever she needs it.
“What I love most is that I can still be myself,” she says. “There’s always something going on, whether it’s activities, gardening, shopping trips, or days out. The girls here are wonderful. They do so much for us.”
The sense of community she once enjoyed at home has continued to grow within the home itself.
“I’ve made friends here, and some of them I already knew from the local area. There’s always someone to talk to, and you never feel alone.”
What makes Springfield Special
Marion especially enjoys the little touches that make everyday life feel special.
“I look forward to fresh fish and chips every Friday, followed by the chef’s amazing cakes,” she smiles. “And although organising outings isn’t always easy, the staff always do their very best to make things happen for us.”
For anyone feeling uncertain about moving into care, Marion offers heartfelt reassurance.
“Don’t be afraid,” she says. “It’s such a lovely place to be. Everyone is kind, caring, and welcoming. You still have your independence, but with extra support around you whenever you need it. It really does feel like family.”
Marion’s story is a wonderful reminder that moving into a care home is not about losing independence. It can be about gaining peace of mind, meaningful friendships, new experiences, and the confidence to enjoy life with the right support around you.
